Thomas Q.BIT

Thomas is a highschool student who dares to challenge the greatest video game designing company by hacking into their computers. He gets arrested but convinces his captors to use him in their Secret Experimental Innovations Team. His aim is to get to try out their new “game”, codenamed “I play alone”.

The game transfers him to 1944, at the village his friend, Christina, is from, and the place looks exactly as she had described it once in an essay about the Nazi occupation of Greece. There he is greeted by Effie, a girl his age, who is no other than his friend’s great grandmother.

Not knowing whether he’s traveled back in time or experiencing a technologically superb game of virtual reality he teams up with Effie and Rania, a young Jewish girl in hiding and they join the groups of children fighting with the Resistance. He will grow to understand what life and death is, and from a virtual warrior turn into a “real” one.

The self sacrifice of Effie’s uncle, who will save him, will shake Thomas to his core. That journey to the past is nothing more than his initiation into life’s mysteries.

Coming back to the present, Thomas will try to figure out the truth. He collects the information he can and travel back to Klonari where he will meet the 90 year old Effie who will prove how relative our idea of time can be.

A series of twists and revelations will lead him to another journey through the past. In 19th century Paris.

DRAMATIS PERSONAE

Thomas. A boy obsessed with computers. Everyone calls him Q.Bit because of his speed when he plays video games. Addicted to war games. Provocative, daring, he just wants to  try the experimental new video game that’s supposed to take you through time. There, in the Spring of 1944, the darkest of the 20th century he will learn how to be a true warrior, and learn the truth of life and death. He will come back to the present determined to find answers about what he experienced in the past.

Christina is Thomas’ best friend. She is loyal, and she loves her friends and always supports their choices. Always willing to help, ready to offer the best she can for the good of the group. She is a good student and she writes an essay on her great grandmother’s action against the nazi occupation of Klonari back in 1944. That is where Thomas chooses to travel to.

Manolis is the third person of the trio. He’s vulnerable and weak, emotionally wrecked by the financial crisis that’s taken its toll on his parents. He finds a sort of protection and support in the members of a neo-nazi organization. Until Thomas reveals to him everything he went through, everything he “lived” back in 1944 and inspires him to seek the historical truth by himself.

In 1944 we meet Effie, Rania, and Sophia, the three girls taking part in the resistance.

Effie is dynamic, vivacious, and always fights for what is right, following the beliefs her parents have raised her on. She arrives on Klonari from Thessaloniki, and there she joins the underage resistance group. Effie is the one to find Thomas, and she decides to save and protect him. She falls in love with him along the way, although she can’t be sure you can really love someone that you have met in a crack of the speculum of time.

Rania has a secret. She tries to be friendly towards everyone so they’ll let her join the resistance against their oppressors. She has traveled from Thessaloniki with her friend and her mother because she was in danger in the city. She doesn’t understand why wars exist, and she often feels rage overpowering her.

Sophia is brave, energetic, a true fighter. She is Effie’s older cousin and the one taking care of her father after the her mother’s death, while taking part in the action against the oppressors at the same time. She thinks the two younger girls from Thessaloniki are insufferable and irresponsible. She believes that, without meaning to, they are dangerous for the cause. When Thomas appears, however, she likes him instantly and helps him.
