Tomorrow, another country

Tomorrow, Another Country, is Soti Triantafillou’s second novel, a story on an Athenian childhood in the sixties, a time of games, broken dreams and lost loves and a few other scary things, narrated (slightly distorted and sometimes concealed) by the members of a middle-class family who live in downtown Athens, a major city in the making. It is a dusty city, not because of the hot weather, rather because of the construction sites. Athens in the sixties goes wild, dancing the twist and the bossa-nova, and drinking exotic cocktails at the seaside hangouts. Everything seems easy but it isn’t, everything seems innocent and funny but it isn’t. Tomorrow, Another Country is a story of betrayal, illusion and regrets; it is also a chronicle of Athens in the sixties, in a short moment of time before the military coup in 1967; then, it is also a chronicle of this uncertain southern republic and of the collective dreams that fell apart ruining people’s lives. Through the events and the characters of the novel, two countries unfold: one that exists no more – Greece in the sixties ― and this other country, our childhood, our memory.
