Social understanding is one of the greatest difficulties that children with autism struggle with. As a result, functional communication with others is often not an easy task. This book is a guide for children on the higher end of the autism spectrum as well as for all adults in their lives (e.g. parents, educators and specialists). It focuses on educating children on social rules and is divided into two sections.

The first section consists of illustrated examples of social behaviors all of which are based on true stories. This section is subdivided into two group that address different ages ranges (approximately 4-7 years old and approximately 8-12 years old).

The second section is for adults and includes the explanations of the illustrated examples in section 1 as well as various suggestions to deal with such behaviors.

Panagiota and Eleni have developed of a set of exercises aiming to educate the neurotypical population about autism. These exercises are based on Panagiota’s book children’s book about autism. They have also collaborated on an intervention program for children with autism in elementary schools in Athens. This is their first, of a series of books concerning the education of individuals with autism in social understanding.

Panagiota Plissi was born in Athens and is of Cypriot origin. She studied education at the University of Ioannina in Greece and has worked as an elementary school teacher in public schools both in Cyprus and Greece. During the past years she has been systematically working as an author mainly of children’s books but also on of a serious of books concerning autism with the Psychologist Eleni Louvrou. These will be published by Patakis Publications. With her background in teaching she has taken part in seminars training teachers, parents and university students on the school integration of children on the autism spectrum. Up until today she has published seven children’s books one of which concerns autism that has been translated into Italian (Non sono un mostro ti dico!, Ed. Anicia). With the assistance of Eleni Louvrou she has also created a set of exercises based on this book. Her books primarily concern current social issues in Greece (e.g. divorce, unemployment and autism)

Panagiota has received several awards for her work the most important of which the cypriot governmental award for childhood literature for 2004, 2011 and 2014.

Panagiota has a son on the autism spectrum.

Eleni Louvrou was born and raised in British Columbia, Canada. She is a psychologist specializing in the treatment of individuals of all ages on the autism spectrum. Eleni holds a BSc in Psychology (Glamorgan University), an MSc in Applied Psychology (Brunel University) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology (The Open Univeristy of Britain). Her experience in the field of autism began in 2000 in London and since then has worked privately and in collaboration with multiple associations and educational institutes.

She has translated the book ‘Teaching Children with Autism to Mind Read’ (P.Howlin, S. Baron-Cohen & J. Hadwin) into Greek (Glafki Publications).

Eleni lives in Athens and is a mother of three.

Daniela Stamatiadi

Daniela Stamatiadi is a graduate of the Athens School of Fine Art. She works in Athens, Greece, as a painter, illustrator and visual arts teacher in private colleges. She has been a freelance children's book illustrator since 2000, resulting in more than 100 books. In 2010 she received the Greek IBBY Award and in 2012 the EBGE Praise for her illustrations. She was also invited to represent Greece at Salon Du Livre 2012, Paris. Daniela has taken part in numerous painting and illustration exhibitions both in Greece and abroad. Since 2010 she is cooperating with the Frissiras Gallery and the FrissirasMuseum. In 2013 she received two EBGE praises and also she was granted with an Andersen Award nomination. In 2016 she had a solo illustration exhibition at GotlandsMuseum in Sweden, and received the Peter Pan Award from the Swedish IBBY.

Four picture books illustrated by Effie Lada have just been published by the Chinese publisher Shanghai 99 Culture Consulting CO.! Three stories based on traditional tales, "Teardrop's Feat", "The Tower Manuscripts" and "Mary and the Sugarplum Man" by author Athina Biniou, and "The Birthday of the Infanta", Oscar Wilde's story retold by the illustrator.
