The Night of the Fireflies

The silver seagull said it first that morning as he was landing on the seashore: “The sea is heaving with anger.” The beluga took up the cry in the open sea. But Mako and his friends knew it already. The bottle-nose dolphins had warned them some time ago. They had spoken of the northern lands, where the sky was black with smoke coming out of tall chimneys, and ill with heat and sweat which fell on the frozen regions of the North and the South Pole and slowly melted the ice. What were humans doing? What disaster was brewing? And why wasn’t anybody doing something about it? An ecological tale, poetically illustrated.
