Part-time Dragons

Part-Time Dragons assembles sixteen of Maria Mitsora’s short stories. Nine have been published in Greek newspapers and magazines over the past thirty years and revised by the author for this occasion. The others are completely new. The collection thus offers a kind of retrospective of the author’s work, capable of sketching its development over almost forty years while focusing on her most recent writing. Here Mitsora is largely a writer of the urban landscape, of the mega-city at its best and worst moments. She creates and re-creates this city through her narrators and characters, drawing its dimensions through its impact on their psychological states, their changing moods and desires. Athens is transformed into a world city, defined at once by local colour and by cosmopolitan sophistication.
